Lieutenant Commander Deuter was a member of Attack Squadron 196, Carrier Air Wing 2 aboard the aircraft carrier USS RANGER (CVA-61). On November 22, 1969, he was the bombardier/navigator of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a visual dive bombing mission into Laos. During a dive the aircraft became uncontrollable and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
