Lieutenant Junior Grade Cassell was a member of Attack Squadron 152, Carrier Air Wing 16 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On July 15, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) on an attack on watercraft near Cua Dai, North Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed into the sea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
