Lieutenant Carpenter, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Reconnaissance Heavy Attack Squadron 6. On March 31, 1969, he was flying in a North American Vigilante Fighter (RA-5C) over Laos when his aircraft crashed 5 miles northwest of Nhommarrath. His remains were recovered on March 11, 1997 and identified on July 9, 1998. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
