Seaman George Burch was born in 1833. He joined the USS Roanoke as a Seaman, U.S. Navy. On January 10, 1850, his ship was anchored in the port of Aspinwall, Panama. Seaman Burch fell from the foretopsail yard and struck the deck causing instant death. He was buried at Monkey Hill. His crew constructed a monument honoring him at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. His remains could not be recovered. The monument was moved to the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979 and placed between Memorial Hill and Section E and headstone at Section G, Row 3, Grave 16.
