Hospital Corpsman Second Class Brown was a member of the U.S. Navy serving with Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On December 4, 1950, as the 7th Marines were withdrawing to Hagaru-ri, North Korea, its convoy was ambushed. He was listed as Missing in Action while tending his wounded comrades and was presumed dead on April 14, 1954. His remains were later returned by the North Koreans.
