Lance Corporal Bower was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On October 6, 1969, he drowned when being extracted from a tower post on the Song Thu Bon River in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on November 20, 2000 and identified on July 10, 2001. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
