Staff Sergeant Bishop was a rifleman with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On April 29, 1970, he was defending Fire Support Base Granite in Kontum Province, South Vietnam, when an explosive missile struck him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
