Sergeant Berg was a member of Headquarters, United States Army, Vietnam. On August 7, 1971, he was serving with a reconnaissance unit in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. He left his bunker to recover a claymore mine and was killed by small arms fire. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
