Lieutenant Junior Grade Benson, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Air Anti-Submarine Squadron 23 aboard the aircraft carrier USS YORKTOWN (CV-10). On March 17, 1968, he was the co-pilot of a Martin Tracker Anti-Submarine Aircraft (S-2E) on a surveillance mission near Vinh, North Vietnam. Contact was lost when the aircraft was 30 miles off the coast of North Vietnam and 25 miles east southeast of Hon Me Island. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
