Major Belcher was a member of the 1st Air Commando Squadron, Pleiku, South Vietnam. On December 31, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Attack Aircraft (A1-E) on a mission over Laos when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on October 17, 1995 and identified on November 21, 1997. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
