Lieutenant Commander Beene, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Attack Squadron 152, Carrier Air Wing 16 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On October 5, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) on an armed reconnaissance over the coastal area of North Vietnam between Cape Mui Ron and Thanh Hoa. After he entered thick cumulus clouds, contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
