Captain Beach was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On March 20, 1966, he was flying in a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) when he became disoriented and crashed into the sea offshore South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
