Staff Sergeant Batt was a member of Headquarters Company, United States Army, Vietnam. On March 16, 1969, he was a passenger in a Beech Ute Utility Aircraft (U-21) going from Qui Nhon to Hue, South Vietnam. Bad weather caused the loss of contact and the plane crashed. His remains were recovered on April 7 1988 and identified on April 5, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
