Colonel Allinson was a member of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On August 12, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a bombing mission near Yen Bai, Nghia Lo Province, North Vietnam. His aircraft was hit by hostile fire and he ejected, but could not be located. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
