William J. Allen was born in Gananoque, Canada on November 2, 1870. He married Margaret H. Allen and they had five children. He became a naturalized citizen on September 26, 1910. William moved to the Canal Zone on October 15, 1908, so that he could work as a painter, Mechanical Division, Panama Canal Company. His family joined him in June 1912. For his work he received the Roosevelt Medal. After retirement he remained in Panama. He died on March 28, 1954 and is buried at the Corozal American Cemetery next to his wife, Margaret.
