Master Sergeant Abbott was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Gold Star Lapel Button, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Master Sergeant Abbott was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. In Korea, he was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy 50 miles north of Hamhung, North Korea near the Chosin Reservoir on November 30, 1950 and died while in captivity near Kanggye on December 31, 1950 of gangrene, frozen feet and maltreatment. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
