Clark Veterans Cemetery is located about 50 miles north of Manila, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.
It is one of only two American Battle Monuments Commission cemeteries open to new burials.
More than 8,800 servicemembers and their family members rest here – Americans and Filipinos side by side.
The identities of over 2,000 are unknown.
Those buried here include Veterans who served in the American conflicts from as early as the Civil War through the present day.
Within the cemetery there is a monument to the Unknown Dead from the early 20th century.
This memorial was heavily damaged in fighting during World War II.
For decades, the cemetery was administered by the U.S. Air Force as part of Clark Air Base.
The 1991 eruption of nearby Mount Pinatubo caused the evacuation of the base.
Members of the local veterans' community diligently maintained the grounds for almost two decades – showing a notable respect for those who lie here.
In 2013, the American Battle Monuments Commission assumed responsibility for the cemetery.
But what is unchanged and permanent is the reverence for these sacrifices of the past.
