Captain Salares was assigned to the 5010th Composite Wing at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. On August 22, 1951 he was a passenger on a C-47A Skytrain transport assigned to the 5039th Air Transport Group, 39th Air Transport Wing at Elmendorf AFB. The plane was enroute from Elmendorf AFB to Eielson AFB, Alaska, when it crashed at Summit, Alaska about 145 miles north of Anchorage, killing all nine servicemen on board. |
