Captain Long was a decorated veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a pilot of a F-80 Shooting Star Fighter-Interceptor with the 25th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 51st Fighter-Interceptor Group. On August 20, 1951, he departed Suwon Airfield (K-13) on a strafing mission to Chinnampo, North Korea. After the attack his plane flamed out and crashed and he was listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
