First Lieutenant Simonson was the pilot of a F9F-2B Panther jet fighter with the Marine Fighter Squadron 311, Marine Air Group 33, 1st Marine Air Wing. On January 2, 1951, while on a combat mission of strafing enemy positions near Kaesong, Korea, his aircraft failed to pull out and crashed into a hill. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
