USNA Class of 1936, Commander Vogel was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the Commanding Officer of Carrier Air Group 11, aboard the carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On August 19, 1950, he was flying an F4U-4B Corsair fighter and leading an attack on a railroad bridge in Seoul, Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire, burst into flames and crashed. |
