Ensign Murphy was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Attack Squadron 115, aboard the carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On May 29, 1951, while on a combat mission near Ch-ang-ni, North Korea, his aircraft accidentally struck another F4U-4, crashed and exploded. |
