First Lieutenant Books was a member of Battery A, 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Chochiwon, South Korea on July 10, 1950 and died as a prisoner on the "Tiger Death March" near Manpo, North Korea of malnutrition and dysentery on December 31, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
