Sergeant Kreider was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Hoengsong, South Korea on February 12, 1951. He was held at "Mining Camp" and died on August 31, 1951 of starvation and lack of medical treatment. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
