Private First Class Hoey was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 4, 1950 and returned to duty on September 6, 1950. He was seriously wounded again on September 12, 1950 and returned on October 6, 1950. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near Unsan, North Korea on November 2, 1950 and presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were recovered on August 5, 1997 and identified on November 6, 2000. PFC Hoey's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
