Lieutenant Miller was a member of Fighter Squadron 191, Carrier Air Wing 19 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS TICONDEROGA (CVA-14). On March 7, 1967, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8E) on a combat mission over North Vietnam. At a point 65 miles east of Thanh Hoa, his aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
