Lieutenant Martin, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Fighter Squadron 191, Carrier Air Wing 19 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On October 16, 1970, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8J) conducting a flight over the Gulf of Tonkin. His aircraft crashed about 40 miles southwest of Hai Nan Island. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
