Staff Sergeant Malone was a radio operator with Company C, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On May 4, 1966, he was sent to the weapons platoon pick up his platoon's mail. He disappeared and was listed as Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
