Lieutenant Junior Grade Healy was the pilot of an AD-4 Skyraider dive bomber with Attack Squadron 55, aboard the aircraft carrier USS ESSEX (CVA-9). On November 23, 1952, he was on a rescue mission, searching for a downed comrade, he exposed his aircraft to hostile fire in order to search a narrow valley. His aircraft was shot down by antiaircraft fire 24 miles northwest of Songjin, North Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
