For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Haugland was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes

Sergeant First Class Haugland was a member of Battery D, 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea on December 2, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were later recovered and identified. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
