Lieutenant Commander Edwards was a member of Attack Squadron 153, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CONSTELLATION (CVA-64). On October 20, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4C) on a bombing mission to hit the Trinh Xu Yen Bridge at Nam Dinh, Nam Ha Province, North Vietnam when he dove at the target he struck the ground. His remains were recovered on November 3, 1988 and identified on August 2, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
