Lieutenant Chick was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 113 aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On July 4, 1952, he was on a strafing run near Latitude 38° North Longitude 127° East, when his aircraft was hit by small arms fire and crashed into a mountain. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
