Ensign Brown was a pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 113, aboard the carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). on June 2, 1952, as his aircraft left the deck on a combat mission, it was struck by the slipstream of another aircraft, fell into the sea and its belly tank exploded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
