Ensign Brey was the pilot of an AD-4 Skyraider dive bomber with Attack Squadron 65, aboard the carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On April 16, 1951, while on a combat mission over North Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. He was presumed dead on April 22, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
